MUSIC (ORIGINAL COMPOSITIONS)

Composing is one of my great loves.

When I fell in love with filmmaking at about age eleven, I fell in love with film scores in particular. So much so that for a time, composing for film was all I wanted to do when I grew up.

I am so lucky to have been given the chance to realize one of my many dreams as a key part of much of my work.

Below is a sampling of music I have composed over the years for clients and passion projects alike.

Letters From Madison (2005)

On The Stroke Of Murder (full track)

Freedom Dance (2007)

I wrote this theme to accompany a concept of mine for a television series. It’s the story of an abandoned mansion, the eccentric old man who once owned it, a string of mysterious murders, and a treasure supposedly buried somewhere on the grounds...all tied together by an antique clock that somehow holds the key to solving the mystery. For fun and inspiration, I composed this—the opening title sequence that will introduce each episode.

We Have Cleared The Tower (full track)

00:00 / 01:50

Solo (Coming Soon)

I am a space geek, and this composition captures what I feel every time I watch a launch. This is my musical interpretation of the precision, determination, and spirit that are called into being every time we leave Earth to explore the heavens. I would LOVE the chance to score a film about this great adventure someday.

Dad vs. The Hornet's Nest (full track)

00:00 / 00:58

This one is just full out comedy, along the lines of the scores from '80s and '90s flicks like National Lampoon's or What About Bob. I imagined and then composed this little sequence during which a typical suburban dad, dressed in hockey gear and armed with a baseball bat, stupidly decides to take on a hornet's nest high atop the tree in his front yard. When a lone hornet gets a little too close, he of course loses his balance, pulls the whole angry nest to the ground as he falls, and then runs for cover by throwing himself into his neighbor's pool. Listen closely and the music will tell you the whole story.

Femme Fatale (full track)

00:00 / 02:47

Secret agent meets superhero in this track that features sexy, brooding sound elements—my musical concept for a movie or video game about a heroine you don't want to mess with.

The Disappearance Of Mary Sullivan (full track)

00:00 / 01:59

My concept music for another screen story I am developing with my wife (who is one terrific writer) about a decades-old small-town murder, a cover up, and a relentless young reporter who is in over her head. This cue would accompany the film's main title sequence, during which we witness the moment a hiker first discovers the victim's body, deep in the woods...

Hope For Haiti (sample)

00:00 / 00:58

A sample from the score I composed for a documentary about the poorest communities living in Haiti. As I do for most of my scores, I performed each of the instruments in the recording. In this case these included a low synth pad, assorted live percussion, and an Irish whistle that I played unconventionally to emulate a sound more appropriate to the film's geography.

Prejudice & Pride (full track)

00:00 / 01:32

A quirky little piano piece I wrote to sound like something you might hear in a scene from a Jane Austin novel.

Game Time (full track)

00:00 / 01:29

This track blends 8-bit video game nostalgia with a trap groove to evoke competitive action and a thirst for high scores. As I composed this one, I pictured a television commercial or sports broadcast show opening that features footage of football players taking hits and being transformed into bit-crushed video game graphics.

Look Up (full track)

00:00 / 02:48

Imagine an IMAX documentary about the cosmos narrated by Morgan Freeman, and you'll understand the intention behind this idea for a film score. Another dream project of mine.

On The Trail Of The Killer (full track)

00:00 / 02:10

A second track from the score concept for our small-town murder mystery story. In this sequence that begins as a montage, the central character revisits the crime scene and related clues, eventually sorting through them late into the night at the town library. It is here that she discovers who is really behind the murders...only to look up and see him peering at her (yikes). The cue concludes with a brief action beat—a chase—from which our heroine narrowly escapes.

Falling For You (full track)

00:00 / 02:16

This optimistic texture was designed to provide a fitting mood for a variety of narrative or corporate-themed videos. In another universe it could also serve as a backing track under some clever pop lyrics.

Crossing The Border (sample)

00:00 / 01:43

A suspenseful cue from the soundtrack for Freedom Dance, a unique animated documentary short film for which I composed the music and was nominated for an ITVA-DC Peer Award for Best Original Score in 2007.

Letters From Madison – End Titles (full track)

00:00 / 02:28

The suite of themes I wrote for my short film, Letters from Madison. This cue accompanies the end credits.
